Students from Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) in Yangling, China, visit PULS.

26.02.2026

On February 9, 2026, at the invitation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture and Biotechnology of the Poznań University of Life Sciences, we welcomed a group of fifteen students from the Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, China. Our guests will take part in a three-month professional course on the production, breeding, and seed production of forage plants.

The decision of the Yangling University authorities to send a group of students to such a professional course is a new form of Polish-Chinese cooperation for us. Until now, we have recruited candidates from China for Master's and Doctoral studies. According to Prof. Wang Quanzhen, a long-time lecturer at the Faculty of Forage Grasses at Northwest A&F University (NWAFU), the University's decision is related to the growing demand in China for specialists in domestic feed production, while at the same time limiting imports.

The course program includes lectures and practical workshops, as well as visits to several of the best Polish breeding and seed companies. Classes will be conducted in English by academic staff from four units of the Faculty:

  • Department of Agronomy,
  • Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding,
  • Department of Plant Pathology and Seed Science,
  • Department of Plant Physiology.

The initiator of cooperation with this Chinese University and the author of the course concept was Prof. Roman Hołubowicz from the Department of Plant Pathology and Seed Science. In 2001-2025, he was, among other things, the Rector's representative for cooperation with the PRC, and in April 2025, he met with the authorities of the Faculty of Forage Grasses of NWAFU and Prof. Wang Quanzhen. The position of course director was entrusted to Prof. Hanna Dornia, PhD, from the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, while Dr. Agnieszka Rosińska, Eng. became the group supervisor (both representing the Department of Plant Pathology and Seed Science).

The first few days after arriving in Poznań were devoted to familiarizing the students with the academic staff, the class schedule, and the University's research and teaching infrastructure. The guests visited the University's facilities located on Wojska Polskiego Street, Dojazd Street, and in Ogrody neighbourhood.

The key event inaugurating the course was an official meeting with the authorities of the Faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture and Biotechnology, which took place on February 13, 2026, in the Senate Hall of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań. The event was attended by students, the Chinese group supervisor, Ms. Sun Luanzi, and the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Daniel Lipiński, PhD, the Vice-Dean for English-language studies, Prof. Joanna Zeyland, PhD, and the Vice-Dean for Science and Development, Prof. Zbigniew Karolewski, PhD.

During the meeting, the students' stay plan was discussed in detail and the educational objectives of the course were defined. Our guests showed particular interest in the origins of the Poznań University of Life Sciences and the history of our city and country. The meeting also provided a platform for discussion on the expansion of educational and scientific cooperation in the coming years.
