The results of the evaluation of scientific activity, announced on July 22 by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, show that the Poznań University of Life Sciences not only maintained a high level of research, but also achieved the best overall rating in its group of universities. PULS received two A+ categories, seven A categories, and only one B+ category, outperforming other agricultural and natural science universities in Poland. This is also one of the highest scores achieved by academic institutions in Poland.

The highest category, A+, was awarded to the disciplines of: veterinary medicine, animal science, and fisheries. Category A was awarded to: biotechnology, economics and finance, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, mining and energy, biological sciences, forestry, and food and nutrition technology, while agriculture and horticulture received category B+.

Veterinary medicine, animal science, and fisheries – taught at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the Poznań University of Life Sciences (PULS) – deserve special mention. Both disciplines received an A+ rating, thereby achieving the highest score among universities in Poland.

The latest evaluation results are also particularly significant in the context of the ongoing recruitment process. For applicants, they confirm that they are choosing a university that conducts research at the highest level. High academic rankings translate into the quality of education, access to state-of-the-art laboratories, student participation in ambitious research projects, and the opportunity to learn from researchers who are among the nation’s leading experts in their fields.

The evaluation of scientific activity is one of the most important mechanisms for assessing Polish science. It covers universities, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), and research institutes conducting scientific activity in various disciplines. Scientific categories – ranging from A+ to C – are assigned based on the quality of publications, the financial outcomes of research conducted as part of scientific projects and contract work commissioned by external partners, and the impact of scientific activity on the socio-economic environment. The results obtained determine, among other things, the right to conduct studies and doctoral programs, to award academic degrees, and the amount of subsidies from the state budget.

In this year’s evaluation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education awarded 1,241 scientific categories across 280 institutions. Approximately 40 percent of all evaluated disciplines received the highest ratings: A+ and A, which demonstrates just how demanding the process was.
